DESCRIPTION:Valley Art Center is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition\, Contemporary Debris. This invitational group show will present a remarkable assortment of artwork created with recycled materials\, co-curated by Valley Art Center Assistant Director & Gallery Manager Julie Polsinelli and The Gallery at Lakeland Community College Gallery Coordinator/Exhibition Curator/Installation Designer Mary Urbas. The exhibition will showcase the extraordinary talent of Northeast Ohio artists who embody the spirit of creativity\, resourcefulness\, and environmental consciousness. \nFrom September 8 to October 18\, visitors will be immersed in an assortment of artwork crafted exclusively from recycled materials\, proving that beauty can be found in even the most unexpected places.\nArtists from all corners of the creative world have embraced the challenge of transforming discarded objects into astonishing works of art. Marvel at sculptures meticulously fashioned from scrap metal\, witness intricate collages brought to life from found objects\, and explore the many possibilities of repurposed materials that push the boundaries of artistic expression. \nAs a part of Contemporary Debris\, Valley Art Center’s façade will be adorned with a stunning recycled wall sculpture from Ron Shelton\, which will have a second life following its creation in Riverside Park in April. Ron Shelton\, a Cleveland-based artist known for his remarkable sculptures made from recycled materials\, brings his talent and passion for environmental sustainability to this project. DESCRIPTION:Learn about Salem\, Massachusett’s tragic past and cultural present with author Katherine Kerestman. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\nSee all of the author’s upcoming visits on our events calendar. \n\nKatherine Kerestman will present the tragic history of the Salem Witch Trials\, followed by a pictorial exploration of the culture of present-day Salem; the program will conclude with an overview of some of the other creepy destinations to which she has traveled – destinations associated with macabre stories all over the U.S.\, Mexico\, Europe and China. \nFollowing the program\, Kerestman will be available for book sales and signing. \nKerestman is the author of Lethal (PsychoToxin Press\, 2023) and Creepy Cat’s Macabre Travels: Prowling around Haunted Towers\, Crumbling Castles\, and Ghoulish Graveyards (WordCrafts Press\, 2020). She is the co-editor (with S. T. Joshi) of The Weird Cat\, an anthology of weird cat stories by writers living and dead (forthcoming from WordCrafts Press). Her Lovecraftian and gothic works have been featured in Black Wings VII\, Penumbra\, Journ-E\, Spectral Realms\, Illumen\, Retro-Fan and The Little Book of Cursed Dolls (Media Macabre\, 2023). Kerestman has a B.A. from John Carroll University and an M.A. from Case Western Reserve University\, and she is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association\, the Jane Austen Society of North America\, the Horror Writers Association\, the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society and the Dracula Society. DESCRIPTION:North Union Farmers Market is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates certified\, producer-only farmers markets. We run several farmers market each week during the height of Ohio’s season. Since opening in 1995\, North Union has offered Clevelanders and Northeast Ohioans something to which they previously did not have access – healthy\, fresh\, local produce sold directly by farmers.\n\nNorth Union runs certified producers-only markets. What does that mean?\nEach vendor undergoes an onsite farm inspection. Each farm submits a crop list and site plan in the application process after their farm certification. Certification requires lease or ownership records\, seed receipts\, number of acres under production\, site location\, and approximate harvest. Everything is confirmed by our trained staff.

It is a lens through which to honor the full complexity and nuance of the human experience. Students are encouraged to engage with curiosity vs. judgment\, and to make choices around what feels useful for them moment to moment\, throughout the class.
