SUMMARY:VAC: Contemporary Debris
DESCRIPTION:Valley Art Center is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition\, Contemporary Debris. This invitational group show will present a remarkable assortment of artwork created with recycled materials\, co-curated by Valley Art Center Assistant Director & Gallery Manager Julie Polsinelli and The Gallery at Lakeland Community College Gallery Coordinator/Exhibition Curator/Installation Designer Mary Urbas. The exhibition will showcase the extraordinary talent of Northeast Ohio artists who embody the spirit of creativity\, resourcefulness\, and environmental consciousness. \nFrom September 8 to October 18\, visitors will be immersed in an assortment of artwork crafted exclusively from recycled materials\, proving that beauty can be found in even the most unexpected places.\nArtists from all corners of the creative world have embraced the challenge of transforming discarded objects into astonishing works of art. Marvel at sculptures meticulously fashioned from scrap metal\, witness intricate collages brought to life from found objects\, and explore the many possibilities of repurposed materials that push the boundaries of artistic expression. \nAs a part of Contemporary Debris\, Valley Art Center’s façade will be adorned with a stunning recycled wall sculpture from Ron Shelton\, which will have a second life following its creation in Riverside Park in April. Ron Shelton\, a Cleveland-based artist known for his remarkable sculptures made from recycled materials\, brings his talent and passion for environmental sustainability to this project. For the full list of artists and more information on this exhibition\, please visit valleyartcenter.org.\n \n\nAs an additional highlight of the exhibition\, an Art Talk and Reception titled “The Readymade in Modern and Contemporary Art” will be held on Friday\, October 6 at 6pm in The Bowen Gallery at Valley Art Center. Speaker Sydney Slacas\, J.D. M.A.\, will explore the fascinating concept of found and repurposed objects and their significance in modern and contemporary art\, while surrounded by the art in the gallery space.

SUMMARY:Barre Teacher Training
DESCRIPTION:Teaching Barre and Integrating Movement for Your Practice\, Group Classes\, and Individuals\nwith Elizabeth Silas\nat Chagrin Yoga \nOctober 14th & 15th 2023 \nDeveloping your deep core strength doesn’t mean doing a bunch of sit-ups. It means using your whole body in creative\, fun\, ever-changing movements that are just hard enough to encourage new awarenesses. \nIt’s about building from smaller\, simpler moves that we need into larger\, complex ones that we love. \nIt’s not just your abs. It’s your respiratory diaphragm\, the floor of the pelvis\, key hip and shoulder rotators\, those little muscles you have between each vertebra and between each rib\, plus some big muscles like the glutes and traps and lats. It’s balancing your front body and your back body. \nIt’s your whole body\, breath\, and mind! \nDiscover moves that will energize your own practice\, as well as the group and individual sessions you teach\, with new levels of effectiveness and creativity. Learn: \n· new variations on traditional Pilates exercises (inspired by the mat and the machine work) \n· powerful\, simple moves from modern\, ballet\, and jazz dance (not complicated choreography) \n· deep stretches and preparations for the arm balances and inversions of yoga (gradually build your confidence) \n· strength and bodyweight resistance (turn it up to cardio interval training when you wish) \n· targeted\, therapeutic moves that pre-hab your body to prevent injury (because none of us should wait for injury and rehab to do these!) \nYou’ll be able to sequence and seamlessly transition through short segments in ways that you and your students need and love. Work with what you already know and slowly integrate new ways of moving and breathing into your mix! \nYour training will include: \n· sequences for one full “Basic” class\, with variations on each move to progress over time (can be taught as Barre\, Yoga with Weights\, Yoga Pilates\, Barreless Barre\, or another Fusion class) \n· how to formulate effective\, precise verbal cues \n· optimal alignment for key positions and movements \n· how to sequence your own creative fusion classes or short sequences to layer into your current teaching \n· fundamental anatomy for cueing and sequencing \n· how to change standard moves to make them accessible to new students (regressions) and harder for experienced students (progressions) \n· how to pair music to movement \n· ways to inspire students and create community \n· observation skills (how to really see and listen to students) \n· making the most of props (and also going without them) \nThis training is for: \n· teachers and trainees of a movement practice (such as yoga teachers\, Pilates teachers\, dance teachers\, personal trainers\, group fitness instructors\, physical therapists\, and gymnastics coaches) who want to expand the way they move\, breathe\, and work with their students \n· serious students—those who already take class regularly and want to dive deeper into the HOW and WHY so they can adapt their own practice (know how to use props effectively\, why we sequence moves as we do\, how to self-assist\, etc.) \nWe’ll be moving\, discussing\, and practice-teaching all day\, with short breaks for snacks and lunch\, so bring water and food\, and wear clothes for practice. Text or call Elizabeth (513-255-0166) for more details about what the training will be like! \nSaturday\, October 14th – 11:30am to 6pm \nSunday\, October 15th – 9:30am to 4pm \nTuition: $595. \n$75 early-bird discount when you register before October 7\, 2023. \nTraining spots are limited to ensure everyone has plenty of time to practice teaching and integrate feedback. Register by calling Chagrin Yoga to reserve your spot!
